To occur at the Peaks Ice Arena - 100 N Seven Peaks Blvd, Provo, UT 84606
Now that the Fall 2025 Season is wrapped up, the Contest of Chaos is complete, and the Winter Classic is almost on autopilot...I'd like to welcome everyone to the next chapter of the Rink Rats... Icetronauts
By now a number of you are aware that securing ice time for a winter season is not going to happen. Our next full season is likely to begin somewhere around March, which is okay. It'll give some time to work on other things, to let everyone enjoy their holiday season, to watch some Mammoth games, to coach youth hockey (which I also happened to take on this year), and most importantly, to help the newer, true rookie members of the Rink Rats improve their skills so they can feel up to speed when we integrate at least two more teams in the Spring.
During this off-season, in addition to some occasional one-off Rink Rats games and/or tournaments, Icetronauts will aim to hone rookie skills and positioning, bringing the Rink Rats back to the entire reason it was created, to bring supportive opportunities to learn and play hockey in a low stress environment.
Format:
I will look to secure an hour-long block of ice time, a few times a month. That hour will be broken up into skating drills, rotating stations, and a 20 minute drop-in style scrimmage. Volunteer coaches will run the drills and stations and be present during the scrimmage to help direct positioning.
Player Eligibility:
Where this is to provide instruction and learning opportunities, I am asking that only true rookies/newbies sign up. This is not being put together simply to get ice time for the Rink Rats, it's to help the newer/less skilled players in our league to advance. That being said, higher level players who would like to assist with coaching, may sign up to assist and will not be charged a fee.
Cost:
~$10 per player per session. I will start by saying that this is simply an estimate. If we are able to continue to secure ice time at the Peaks, a 1-hour rental is $200. If we need to obtain ice time elsewhere, the rental fee only goes up from there. As always, any excess funds will go to the Rink Rats account to go towards future league expenses and improvements.
Sign Ups:
All players who are interested, including those who would volunteer to coach any number of sessions can join the Icetronauts Benchapp here. Or using the join code "3503IK". Sessions will be posted as events in the benchapp and will be limited to a maximum of 30 players. This number may be adjusted after the first few sessions when we know how manageable it is.
(If you do join the benchapp as a coach, send me a message so that I can set you as "staff")
I hope that this ends up being beneficial, that we are able to secure adequate ice time, and that it helps prepare new players to join teams for our next season! Cheers!
